Workshops For Writer/Performers

Performing your own poetry, prose or stand-up
material can be a dream or a nightmare -
why not make it a pleasure for yourself and your
audiences by taking time out to work with
professionals who can guide you towards developing
your skills and confidence?

As part of its 2009/10 programme Spotlight is
organising a series of workshops designed to help
you do just that.

Workshops are currently scheduled for:

2010

Friday September 17th
2.30 - 4.30pm at The Storey Creative Industries Centre,
Meeting House Lane, Lancaster LA1 1TH

Facilitator: David Ash

IMPROVISATION
FOR WORK, REST AND PLAY.

Improvisation is a way of developing creativity. By learning to improvise it can help not only the actor or performer on stage, but everyone, in their work, and in their relationships with others.

For the actor, or performer, it gives a freedom and an understanding of working in front of an audience. Simple rules show how to 'be in the moment'. This fascinates an audience and gives your performance a vitality and spontaneity it may have lacked.

Improvisation can show ways of cutting through by 'going for the positive' and an understanding of 'status'.

Learn how everyone can develop the natural creativity that is within all of us. The reason people remember details of an improvisation that they did several years ago, is that for a few moment they were completely open to their own creativity.

In this 2 hour class we will learn the basic rules of improvisation, which can be used in all aspects of our lives.

Fee: £5

Feedback on Previous Workshops:

Thank you  for the performance workshop.  I found it really valuable in
preparing for my Spotlight spot! -

Will you be holding further workshops?  Since attending the first one I have modified and revisited the poetry I brought along and shared.  I found the first session really useful and would like a further session looking at rewriting and revising poetry and then where to go next with it if possbile.

Just a note to say thank you to you for giving us the opportunity to perform at Spotlight.
Both that and your workshop gave a great boost to our confidence and, as I said, we now have a booking for the Ilkley Literature Festival in October for a one hour performance. None of that would have been possible without your support and encouragement.
