Hot News

May 31st - Spotlight has been awarded funding from Arts Council England which will ensure that our monthly event will continue until June 2015! Alongside this we will be programming a number of Writing Surgeries and Workshops over the next 2 years.

We will also be running two projects: 'Listening To Youth 2' with younger writers and  'Positive Ages, Times of Life' - a cross-ages community project which will bring younger and older writers together. This latter project is partly funded by The Big Lottery Fund and Morecambe Town Council.

Our Aims

  Spotlight:

  - was founded in 1995 to
    promote and encourage the
    development and performance
of new writing in the North
    West

  - dedicated to encouraging
    new writing at the grass
                                                 roots

        - encourages diversity and we welcome every genre of
writing from the comic to the cosmic

        - operates at all times within accepted guidelines on
          equal opportunity.

Hunting Originals

Spotlight is a cave of ideas,
always on the hunt for new and
experimental writers and
performers at it's
Open Mic spots.

On the 3rd Friday of every
month the event gives a
platform to poets, writers,
comedians, ranters and
musicians.

It's a dynamic platform on
which a wide variety of aspiring
writers are positively encouraged to experiment with words,
music and performance.

Open-Mic

  Each Spotlight event opens with
an Open Mic session (8.30 -
  9.00pm) featuring six 5 minute
spots open to anyone. As these
are very popular you may want
to e-mail to book an Open Mic
  spot in advance:
  spotlightclub@btinternet.com
  Plus: Open Mic performers are
  admitted half-price!

  Following the Open Mic session,
  Spotlight showcase 4 different
writers and 2 music acts which
feature some of the best writing
  and musicianship in the region!
